AV hire and event production, answered

The questions Auckland organisers, promoters and artists actually ask. If yours is not here, call us on 021 251 2574.

How much does AV hire and event production cost in Auckland?
There is no fixed price list, because no two events draw the same kit or crew. We quote per event against the scale of the room, the audio, lighting, staging and backline it needs, how many crew run it and how long the load-in and pack-out take. Send us the date, the venue or site, rough headcount and what you are after, and we will come back with a clear quote. Phone 021 251 2574 or email info@electricboogie.co.nz.
Do you deliver, set up and pack out, or is it collect-yourself?
For most jobs we deliver, rig and run the show, then pack out at the end. The crew who design the plot are the crew who load it in, so the kit turns up configured for your event rather than as a pile of boxes. If you would rather collect a smaller package yourself, we can talk about that too.
What is the difference between dry hire and operated hire?
Dry hire is kit only: you collect it, run it and return it, which suits venues and productions with their own technicians. Operated or crewed hire means we supply the kit and the people to engineer and run it, from FOH and monitors through to lighting and stage crew. Most clients take crewed hire so the show is looked after end to end.
Can you supply backline only, or run the whole production?
Both. We hold a rider-specific backline inventory built for live music, so we can fulfil a band rider on its own. We can also take on the full production: audio, lighting, staging, festival infrastructure and technical direction, run as one job. Tell us where on that scale you sit and we will scope it.
What size events do you take on?
From a single band on one stage through to multi-stage festivals with their own power, site plan and infrastructure. Because we own the inventory and run it with our own crew, we can size a package up or down rather than forcing your event into a fixed template. If you are not sure what your event needs, that is part of what we work out with you.
Do you cover festivals and events outside Auckland?
Yes. We are an Auckland company and cover the CBD, North Shore, and West, South and East Auckland, but we regularly work further afield: Waikato and Hamilton, Tauranga, and Wellington. For touring and festivals we travel nationwide. Distance changes logistics and crew time, so we factor that into the quote up front.
Where are you based?
Our workshop is in Massey, West Auckland. It is by appointment rather than a walk-in counter, so get in touch first and we will set a time. The kit lives and gets prepped here, then heads out to your venue or site.
Can you provide the band or entertainment as well as the production?
Yes. Electric Boogie is equal parts artists and technicians, and we work with a collective of bands and performers we know and trust. So we can put the entertainment and the technical production under one roof, with the same crew handling the show from booking through to pack-out. If you only need the production side, that is fine too.
What about specialist audio and PA system design?
That is handled by our in-house audio arm Eleven Audio. For events that live or die on the sound we engineer the PA and audio system properly, including d&b audiotechnik amplification, rather than wheeling in a generic rig.
What does your technical direction and pre-production cover?
We can take a show from concept through to pack-out: system design, CAD and pre-visualisation, site planning, temporary power, ground support and truss, and the production workflow that ties it together. It means the plot is worked out and proven before load-in day, not improvised on site.
How far ahead should we book?
The sooner the better, especially over the busy summer and festival season when crew and kit get committed early. We will always look at shorter-notice work, but locking in a date well ahead gives us the most room to plan the production and hold the right kit for you. Get in touch as soon as you have a date in mind.
How do we get in touch and get a quote?
Phone 021 251 2574 or email info@electricboogie.co.nz with your date, venue or site, rough headcount and what you have in mind. The more detail you give us, the sharper the quote. Our Massey workshop is by appointment if you would rather talk it through in person.
